The New School is an independent, project-based high school in Atlanta, Georgia. Students master an exacting college-preparatory curriculum while doing real work in the city, learning alongside entrepreneurs, artists, politicians, biochemists and dozens of other professionals. The campus is a converted warehouse at 655 Memorial Drive SE in the Cabbagetown neighborhood.

The New School is a high school serving grades 9 through 12. Students in 8th grade and above are invited to visit and begin the admissions process.

The New School is located in a converted warehouse at 655 Memorial Drive SE, Atlanta, GA 30312, in the Cabbagetown neighborhood just east of downtown. Parking is usually available in front of the building, and there is ample parking in the gravel lot to the left of the school.

Students here do real work in the real world, with real deadlines and real audiences. Every senior completes a year-long internship. Twenty juniors start new businesses each year through the TNS Entrepreneurship program. Students work with more than 100 speakers, mentors and community partners annually, conducting biology experiments with scientists at Zoo Atlanta and the Georgia Aquarium, performing Shakespeare on the BeltLine, and pitching public health ideas to a team from Emory. Tuition is also lower than most private high schools in Atlanta, by design.

Admissions and Applying

Applications are submitted through Ravenna, our online application platform. Create a free Ravenna Hub account, then complete a parent application and a student application, upload a transcript, and submit recommendation letters from current teachers. You can start on the Apply page.

For the 2027-28 school year, the application deadline is Friday, February 12, 2027, and the financial assistance application deadline is the same day. Families receive regular admissions decisions on Friday, April 2, 2027, and signed contracts and deposit payments are due Wednesday, April 14, 2027.

Yes. Unlike many other private high schools, The New School offers an early decision option for families who know that TNS is their first choice. It is available on a rolling basis to any family that has completed all application steps, including a student visit, and is ready to sign a contract. Early admissions decisions can be made any time between November and February.

No. The SSAT is not part of our application process.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition for the 2026-27 school year is $22,250. Our tuition is significantly lower than almost any other private high school in Atlanta.

Yes. Approximately 30% of our students receive some amount of financial assistance, and the average award is approximately $8,000. All of our financial aid is need-based, and all awards go to students who could not attend The New School without assistance. Unfortunately, we are not able to assist every family who demonstrates need.

Once you have applied using your Ravenna Hub account, visit the website of Clarity to complete a financial aid application and upload the necessary documents. Clarity is an independent third-party organization that analyzes each family’s ability to pay tuition, and we use their analysis as one element in our financial aid decisions. The deadline for financial aid applications is February 12, 2027.

Additional sources of financial assistance may be available to families through the GA Promise Scholarship and the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship.

Visiting TNS

Many families begin with a Parent Visit: one-on-one time with our Director of Admissions, lasting about 45 minutes and scheduled morning or afternoon on any school day. Students in 8th grade and above are invited for a morning Student Visit, where they join the all-school morning meeting, sit in on classes, talk with students and meet TNS teachers. Student visit days take place on Wednesdays starting in October. See the Get To Know Us page to sign up.

Open Houses will be held on Thursday evening, October 29th and Saturday, January 23rd. At our Open Houses you will hear faculty and students talk about their experience at The New School, and you can talk with current parents and students who came from many different middle schools and neighborhoods.

At the end of each semester TNS throws open its doors and invites parents, friends and community members to talk with students about the work they have been doing. Expect short plays, band performances, and conversations with students at every grade level who are excited to share their learning journeys.

Academics and College

AP US History students walk the streets of downtown examining the lasting effects of Atlanta’s 1906 Race Massacre, and hold class on the last surviving earthwork from the Civil War. Biology students plant and harvest vegetables in the TNS garden to support metro Atlanta families facing food insecurity. Students in every grade travel to the Okefenokee Swamp to learn first-hand about the environmental issues facing it, then talk with state-wide leaders about its future.

Yes. TNS students master an exacting college-preparatory curriculum, including AP courses such as AP US History and AP English Language, alongside Economics, Calculus and Environmental Science.

The New School offers classes in Design, Filmmaking, Drama and Creative Writing, as well as a student-run Art Club, Fashion Club and two rock bands. We do not keep the arts in a silo: students use their artistic skills and ways of thinking across all of their classes. Many graduates go on to the nation’s top arts schools.

The college counseling process at TNS is rooted in helping students find schools that are the right fit for them. All 9th and 10th graders take a mock PSAT in October, and a mock ACT is offered to interested students each winter. TNS helps students register for the official PSAT and AP exams at our test center host, Druid Hills High School. College representatives can schedule visits through SCOIR. Yes. The 22 members of the Class of 2026 earned 149 acceptances to 92 different colleges and were awarded more than $12,000,000 in financial aid. Graduates have been admitted to colleges ranging from small liberal arts schools to large public universities, including Georgia Tech, the University of Georgia, Emory, NYU, Ivy League schools, Davidson College, Washington University in St. Louis, Spelman College, Rhode Island School of Design and Savannah College of Art and Design. The work here is harder to hide from than a worksheet. A customer does not grade on a curve, and an exhibition audience does not skim. Students complete a college-preparatory curriculum including AP courses such as AP US History and AP English Language, alongside Economics, Calculus and Environmental Science, and they present real work to a real audience at the end of every semester.

Every senior completes a year-long internship with a real organization in Atlanta. Before that, juniors have the option of the TNS Entrepreneurship program, where twenty students start new businesses each year.
