Activism and Civic Engagement

This program gives an of the different layers of government systems and activism, city, county and state, and how to effectively navigate/engage with them. We’ll shadow different elected officials at the city, state, and neighborhood levels, culminating with a final project where we will draft a piece of legislation (either for city or state) to be presented/argued in front of a panel of local elected officials/leaders.

Liliana BakhtiariBorn and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Liliana Bakhtiari, 29, is not only ready for some serious change, she is seriously committed to it. Last year, she ran for Atlanta City Council in District 5, losing by only 250 votes. Liliana has worked with human trafficking victims, survivors of genocide, and orphans around the world. She’s built hygienic systems and conducted job training and women’s health programs. She’s spent her life getting her hands dirty and is excited to inspire and empower young people who are committed to social justice and issues of equity.
