Land Acknowledgement

Land Acknowledgement

Bioneers Program

A land acknowledgement is a formal statement, often given at the beginning of public gatherings and events such as the TNS Spring 2020 Exhibition. The statement is meant to recognize the fact that indigenous peoples have long lived, and continue to live, in the spaces that we call home. A land acknowledgment also works to make all of us more conscious of the indigenous histories of our place, histories that have to often been forgotten and actively erased.

Members of the TNS Bioneers, a group of students who study indigenous and environmental issues in conjunction with groups of indigenous teens in the western United States, have prepared a collection of land acknowledgements for the places that they call home, and Sophomore Naomi Wurtzel will recite her land acknowledgement to formally kick off this Spring’s Exhibition of Student Learning.
