Historical Fiction
Historical Fiction From Our Students
DESCRIPTION
This spring, 10th graders learned about the urbanization, industrialization, and innovation of the Progressive Era, the tragedies of the Dust Bowl and Great Depression, and the promises of the New Deal. Students also continued to explore and practice the elements of powerful creative writing, working on skills like “showing” instead of telling and using imagery to bring a moment to life. To cap off this unit, students wrote a piece of historical fiction grounded in a primary source photo from the era. Click on the images below to read some examples, including their artist statements that explain their creative processes as well as their intentional connections to history.
