Teachers are Guides

. . . who ask probing questions, help students hone academic skills and encourage promising projects. They model essential values like patience and accountability.

IMG_0064Most of us can remember teachers who really made a difference in our lives, teachers who made us see the world in a new way, whom we looked up to and wanted to emulate, who took us and our ideas seriously. At The New School, our teachers understand the difference a trusted adult make in the life of a teenager, and embrace their roles as mentors to their students. Our small class size guarantees that all TNS students have a number of teachers who know them well and take them seriously.

But small doesn’t mean limited. Because in addition to our permanent faculty, TNS students are exposed to a wealth of expertise and resources through our Teaching Partners. These community members come from the worlds of business and journalism, the arts and politics. Internationally renowned designers, local government leaders, high tech entrepreneurs: all have this in common: a passion for what they do, and a desire to share it with young people.
